Priessnitz
Still under the communist rule (in 1989) the punk band from Jesenik adopts the name of the “liquid” feldsher Vincenz Priessnitz and so Priessnitz appears on the rock scene.
In 1991 the band recorded its first album “Freiwaldau” which was released one year later by Legend Recs. The rough-sounding record features the track “Sny: (Dreams), which has ever since been considered one of the band’s greatest hits. The band spends the following year in the studio recording their second album “Nebel” again released on Legend. Priessnitz attracts the attention of music journalist who, using the language full of figures of pathos emphasise the gloominess of local forests, the thickness of fog trailing across the glens and the German roots of the mountain region. No wonder that such enumerations have become favourite clichés for the most distinct features of the band’s music are lyrics instinct with mystique and music with gothic undertones. This might be the reason why Priessnitz has been until recently labelled a gothic band.
After the disappearance of Legend recording company Priessnitz signed a contract with Bonton and in 1994 “Hexe” came out.
The bond with Bonton wass short-lived and Priessnitz soon moved to the mecca of Czech independent music Indies Records, which released their fourth album “Seance” (1996) produced by Jan Muchow. Their music was enriched by strings, which move the sound one step forward from the initial energetic simplicity to more sophisticated arrangements.
The intimate album “Potichu?” followed. It contains acoustic versions of older tracks and features two new songs “Děláže” and “Město duchů”. The band has continued its cooperation with Jan Muchow and several of their tracks have been remixed by prominent figures of the Czech dance scene.
At the end of the hectic 2000 the band recorded its long-awaited new album originally titled “Na sever od ráje” which was later retitled to “Zero” and released on Escape.
In spring 2004 the band recorded live album “Playlist”. The tracks featured on this record were selected in the internet voting by the band’s fan base.
Priessnitz recorded its latest studio album “Stereo” at the end of 2005.
