The pretty little spa town of Marianske Lazne happens to be the hometown of the new hottest discovery of the Czech branch of Sony Music – 100°C. Despite their youth – their average age is only 21 – they have already been remarkably successful. Among others, they were awarded the first prize in the Coca Cola Popstar talent contest – a record contract with Sony Music – as one of the incredible 767 contestants in the 2003 competition.
Their talent was spotted and the media started to be interested. The debut album called “Evergreen” has been finished recently and is ready for release in February 2004.
The band’s music is rooted in rock but combines other influences as well. From reggae and funk to their unique blend of a complete brass section and DJ sound they also include break-beat, jungle and drum’n’bass.
The album was produced by two of the most talented young musicians and producers, Honza Cechticky of Ohm Square – one of the best Czech dance acts, and Yarda Helesic of the platinum-selling rock band Support Lesbiens (Double Czech Music Award Winner). Such a combination of two different approaches to recording and the band’s fire helped to create this year’s first sensation.
Before they locked themselves in a studio 100°C had toured the Czech Republic as a support band for Support Lesbiens. More than 50 000 people saw the band at 15 concerts all over the country and the immediate feedback from fans and media was nothing short of enthusiastic.
